“Newcastle City Council is involved in on-going discussions with the Home Office in response to the government’s existing Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement (VPR) scheme. To date we have offered to accommodate and support up to 10 families (approx. 50 individuals) affected by the on-going humanitarian crisis in Syria.

“We are still waiting to hear from Government about their latest plans to bring more Syrian refugees to the UK. Once the detail of the revised scheme is known we will continue to work with Government to offer what further support Newcastle can.

“Local Authorities will be constrained by these proposals as any resettlement arrangements need to be co-ordinated and arranged via central government.”
