According to the housing charity Shelter, in the twelve months from October 2012 to September 2013, one household in every 105 in England was put at risk of losing their home. In the North East of England Newcastle is the top eviction and repossession hotspot with the rate of possession claims standing at one in 63 households (that is 1,869 mortgage and landlord possession claims in the period Oct 2012 to Sept 2013). However Newcastle only ranks 23 out of 325 areas nationally with the top 16 areas all in London (ranging from one in 35 to one in 59).
